BOTOX® is a quick, minimally invasive cosmetic solution that can help reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, and provide you with a more youthful and rejuvenated look. Led by renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Conor Turley, our team of dedicated professionals will provide you with an individual assessment, educate you about the procedure and discuss if BOTOX® is right for you.
What is BOTOX®
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, botulinum toxin type A is a purified substance that is derived from bacteria. BOTOX® is a common type of botulinum type A injection, which is injected into facial muscles and is used to effectively improve the look of wrinkles and fine lines. This non-surgical cosmetic procedure does not require anesthesia or downtime, which means that you can smoothly fit it into your schedule. You can even get it done during your lunch break and go straight back to work afterwards, if you choose. Patients are in and out of the doctor’s office quickly and can get on with their lives the same day.
How does it work?
BOTOX® works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles and inhibiting muscle contractions. The effects may last from three to twelve months. BOTOX® is commonly used to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause the following:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead creases and furrows
BOTOX® can also be used for facial contouring and to sculpt the face, lift the eyebrows and create definition along the cheekbones. Additional areas which can be treated include: lip lines, mouth frowns, gummy smiles, neck bands, open eyes, v-neck lines and necklace lines.
Who uses BOTOX® injections?
Although it is a common assumption that BOTOX® is most frequently used by models and superstars, the reality is that many BOTOX® users are middle-aged women in their 40’s and 50’s. Individuals with pronounced expression lines who desire a more youthful, less wrinkled or furrowed appearance are typically good candidates for BOTOX®.
What should I expect during my BOTOX® procedure?
Following a thorough consultation and physical examination, Dr. Turley will discuss your particular areas of concern with you. Generally, the treatment takes less than 15 minutes to complete and injections are made into specific muscles. There is typically minimal discomfort after the procedure and in most circumstances, there is little to minimal bruising. It is advised however that patients do not rub the treated area post-procedure, as this may cause the substance to move to other areas of the face. Other than that, you are able to return to your regular activities immediately afterwards.
